Leading investors and funds share our vision of changing the way procurement is managed
Deutz has been a pioneer in engine technology for over a century. In 1876, company founder Nicolaus Otto invented the four-stroke internal combustion engine. Today, the company develops innovative drives for construction machinery, trains, tractors and much more. Its slogan: “We keep the world moving.” This requires expertise and reliable suppliers.
Especially in new business areas such as e-mobility, Deutz relies on both established and new supplier relationships. One example: onboard chargers. These devices convert alternating current from the power grid into the direct current required for vehicle batteries.
Deutz places complex requirements on these components for its electric motors: high quality, specific safety measures, defined performance data, and compliance with EU standards. In addition, small quantities are initially required, as prototypes are being developed.
The AI-powered scouting solution from Alpas, with the integrated 360° Supplier View, ensures that all critical requirements are considered and clearly displayed.
The result for Deutz: 16 potential new suppliers for onboard chargers. Thanks to the precise market overview and direct comparability of offers, Deutz can save 500,000 euros in potential costs. Furthermore, the market launch of the e-motor could potentially take place earlier.
The company Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) is a special-law public limited company headquartered in Bern. Its public service responsibilities include passenger transport and rail infrastructure. Every day, it transports over 1.32 million passengers and 175,000 tons of goods to their destinations. 35,000 employees work with dedication to ensure that passengers arrive safely, punctually, and in an environmentally friendly manner. To maintain this level of service, wheels, axles, switches, signals, and other components must function flawlessly. CNC machining centers play a key role in this. They automate and accelerate the production of spare parts.
Until now, SBB has relied on only one supplier for operating these flexible and expandable production cells. This single sourcing strategy is now being replaced with a broader supplier base to reduce dependency and optimize costs.
With the help of Alpas’ AI-based scouting solution, SBB is making significant progress in supplier sourcing. The result of the highly targeted supplier search: 12 relevant suppliers, some of whom were previously not part of the supplier network.
The 360° Supplier View integrated in the scouting process ensures that potential partner companies meet the Swiss Federal Railways’ complex requirements. These include experience with large milling centers and familiarity with railway-specific IT systems.
In addition, the positive experience with the scouting solution is increasing internal acceptance of AI-based tools.
This is an important contribution to the “SBB 2030 Strategy”, which places a strong focus on digital solutions and artificial intelligence.
Because one thing is clear: innovative technologies can only be integrated into everyday work with the support of employees.
